Message to Parent Community

Dear Parent Community,

The Rivers Secondary College are being proactive in putting in the latest precautionary measures from the Department of Education and Department of Health in regards to COVID – 19 to support our young people and staff.

These directions will cause an increased level of disruption at the school, over the coming weeks and months. I thank you in advance for your patience and support through this difficult time.

As of Monday, 16th March, the school will place some additional operational guidelines in place. They are as follows: -

- Whole school assemblies have been cancelled and will not run for the foreseeable future. Communication for students will be through roll call and year meetings. It is even more important that your children attend roll call, to get informed of the day’s proceedings.

- All school excursions and camps have been cancelled at this stage, until further notice.

- Our Cross Country Carnival and inter - school sporting events have been cancelled, until further notice. School sport will be adjusted and will be on the Campus site in order to minimise interactions between students and the general public.

- All arts and initiatives and events beyond the school are cancelled, until further notice.

- Shared curriculum classes will continue as per usual at this point in time, with Tafe - proceeding as usual, unless they indicate otherwise, and Head Start at Southern Cross University- proceeding as usual, unless they indicate otherwise.

-School based traineeship and apprenticeship - proceed as usual

-Work placement from Tuesday March 17th will be postponed till further notice.

-Work experience from Tuesday March 17th will be postponed till further notice.

In addition to this, the school will provide handwash in bathrooms and hand sanitizer stations, and encourage washing of hands at more regular intervals.

Could I please ask parents and carers, that if your child has come down with a respiratory illness, please don't send them to school and arrange care for them. I am asking my staff to do the same. If a child falls ill at school, we will be asking parents and carers to collect the child promptly, to avoid any illness spreading at school.

There are no school closures planned, and Richmond River High Campus will operate as normal, with these additional guidelines. When I receive updated information, from the Department of Education and Dept. of Health, I will ensure that you are notified.

Thank you for your support,

Belinda Marr
