Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

Robert Lingard (Senior) is our Chaplain
The objectives of the Program are to assist the Richmond River High Campus community to provide pastoral care and general spiritual, social and emotional comfort to all students, irrespective of their faith or beliefs.

Pastoral care is defined in the Agreement with the Commonwealth as:

"the practice of looking after the personal needs of students, not just their academic needs, through the provision of general spiritual and personal advice."

Robert is employed as a Chaplain funded by the Federal Government National School Chaplaincy  Program.

Robert Lingard (Junior) is our Special Religious Education Teacher

The special religious education program (SRE) available at Richmond River High Campus is run by an authorised Special Religious Education Teacher, provided by the Religious Education Association of Lismore (REAL). REAL is supported and funded by the Christian Churches of Lismore and the SRE program is offered to all Year 7-Year 10 students. This program has the support of Richmond River High Campus.

Robert works as a Special Religious Education Teacher 2 days a week where he teaches Year 7 - Year 10 students Special Religious Education.

Information for Parents and Carers

At enrolment, parents/carers will be advised of special religious education options at the school, including the religious persuasions providing special religious education and arrangements made for students whose parents/caregivers indicate that they are not to attend special religious education.

Parents/carers will be provided with a participation letter for SRE in the enrolment pack or at the time of enrolment.

When the parent/carer returns the participation letter the student engages in the nominated program.

A parent/carer may at any time notify the school in writing that they do not wish their child to attend special religious education.

Students are to continue in the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has requested a change.
